S. Y. Jackson Elementary School Reviews

This is my son's second year at S.Y. He was in the Kindergarten inclusion class last year and we loved it. My son was put in an advanced reading group this year and last year. The teachers have been fantastic and the principal is great. As a teacher, I have seen many schools in Albuquerque that have poor administration and teachers. S.Y. is the best elementary school I have seen in New Mexico. S.Y. always has great parent involvement. I wish to thank Mr. Vermillion and all the teachers and staff for making these last two years such great ones for my son. Keep up the great work

My son just finished his 5th grade year and I have a daughter that will be in 2nd grade. This school has been amazing. I've never seen so much participation from parents and faculty as I have at SY Jackson.

Both of my boys went to SY Jackson and they received an excellent education. The staff was very supportive and really cared about them. I felt very safe with them at the school and felt fortunate to have such a good school in the neighborhood.

Our school is just wonderful...... Our staff are just awesome and so is our principal.

The teachers and staff are wonderful, and you won't find a better, more involved principal than Jack. I have first grade girls and we all love the school.

This is our last year at SY Jackson, it has been a great experience for my children and our family. My children have thrived under the supervision of the teachers and the principal. In my opinion it is the best Elementary School in Albuquerque.

The staff was great. My son went to K and he thought it was great. However when we moved, we learned that all the 'social' skills that they were teaching didn't really put him on the same level academically with other schools. In 1st grade at his new school, we played 'catch up' all year!

I had high hopes for SY Jackson being that, on paper, it shines! However, shortly after we started my hopes were dashed. There seems to be a lot of disciplinary problems. My child is only 'occasionally challenged.' The gifted program is weak and not accelerated math/language, only 'enhanced' which translates into a monumental waste of time. The principal likes to brag that 80% kids are in the gifted program.LOL! (its too easy that's why) Many children are allowed to speak disrespectfully to adults. I frequently hear cussing in hallways.

We've been been very happy with SY Jackson. When we moved to Alb from California, we were pretty concerned about the quality of NM schools. We have been thrilled with the quality of education at SY. Great gifted program as well as excellent classes for kids with disabilities. Very involved PTA, with lots of opportunities to be involved. Extracurricular activities include band, 'Jammin' Jaguars' (a choral group), opera, chess club, Battle of the Books, after school science programs, Math Olympiads, and family nights (to name a few). Awesome principal and teachers. The school has a great atmosphere, and kids, parents, teachers and administration all seem to be happy to be there.

Our principle is awesome and so are the teachers. My children have had special needs and the school has bent over backwards to help them. Even though New Mexico schools are rated very low, this is one of the finest in the country. Ten thumbs up for our school.

Our principal, Mr. Vermillion, is awesome. He gets out with the kids during recess, so they all know him. He e-mails parents regularly with updates. He has started new and original promotions to help fund the school. All the teachers my children have had have also been great.
